It’s early morning and I’m about to go running in the fog to clear my head. Here’s the music that keeps me moving this month:
“I Got a Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas (this gets me uber-giddy inside . . . GG predicts this will be the anthem of Summer ’09)
“”Great DJ‘ by The Ting Tings (saw a dance choreographed to this and now I’m hooked)
“Viva La Vida” Instrumental by Cover Guru (how can one not enjoy this?)
“Legs” Dance Mix by ZZ Top (corny, I know, but when I’m working the stairmaster it helps me concentrate on my quads & hams)
“Paper Planes” Scottie B Remix by M.I.A. (just the right beat)
“Love Story” Workout Remix by Taylor Swift (’cause I’m a romantic at heart)
“Lost” by Anouk (this is the song I dance it out with in my basement . . . my PASSION at the moment . . . for some, it would be a cooldown but it gets me going no matter what)
“Postcards from Far Away” by Coldplay (I have an obsession with piano instrumentals . . . use this as my last song)

I stumbled upon your blog and I love your monthly playlists! I’m thinking of adding some of these songs to my MP3 player. I’m struggling to get into working out on a regular basis again. I have an 11-month old baby and a 12-year old stepson, so my time is not my own these days
Any advice for new moms to sneak in a quick workout?

Hi Tracy,
Thank you – I don’t know what I’d do without my IPod during cardio. In fact, once my IPod needed charging and I left the gym!! I couldn’t hang out on those machines without it; I’d feel like a hamster running on a wheel! As far as sneaking in a workout, I remember a few things I did when my daughter was little. First, I bought a few exercise DVDs to motivate me. I didn’t necessarily turn them on each time I worked out, but I watched them for routines and then did them myself. The new ideas helped immensely for motivation when I couldn’t get to the gym. The best times for me to sneak in workouts were either before my daughter woke up or during her naps or after my husband came home so he could watch her. Sometimes I’d plop her down (with some toys handy) to watch or join me – she loves to dance today so maybe some of that rubbed off. In other words, I couln’t always count on the same time each day; as you know, flexibility is key with parenting any age child!!! Thanks for the feedback and stay tuned for more playlists!
